Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d)

Your mission
In this position you will perform a variety of complicated mechanical engineering tasks around high energy density laser systems & experiments. This includes design and development activities in support of Marvel Fusion’s scientific mission and taking responsibility for projects or sub-projects within major projects or research programs.
These activities include conceptualization, design, planning and implementation of projects in opto-mechanical design, high-vacuum technology and scientific instrumentation, utilizing independent judgment and decision making while working within schedule and budget constraints.
This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the business needs; and skills, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.

Your tasks and responsibilities
  • Use extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts and tools and perform as a fully qualified and experienced professional engineer
  • Work on projects both independently and in teams, using professional engineering concepts to develop practical and creative solutions to complex problems
  • Take initiative and assist others in resolving issues outside your immediate area of responsibility
  • Independently prepare design specifications, analyses and recommendations for presentation and approval of scientific and management personnel
  • Formulate cost and schedule data associated with such components and prepare technical or progress reports
  • Regularly perform computer aided design
Your profile
Must have
  • A Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; Normally 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience in optomechanical design and high-vacuum applications
  • Knowledge and experience in 3D CAD (Inventor, SOLIDWORKS or a similar software)
  • Technical expertise sufficient to perform complicated and difficult engineering work
  • Ability to plan, organize, conduct and lead technical projects/programs and to formulate, track and report cost and schedule data
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent proficiency in English
 
Nice to have
  • Experience with optomechanics of large-aperture (laser) optics and their mounts
  • Design and implementation of oil-free high-vacuum experimental chambers and pumping systems
  • Experience with optical design software (e.g., ZEMAX) and their CAD interfaces
